Doctors Protest at ANMMC Hospital for Justice and Safety After Kolkata Incident

Doctors at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College Hospital (ANMMC) in Gaya, Bihar, held a protest on Tuesday. They were protesting against the sexual assault and murder of a woman post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

The doctors sat on strike in front of the ANMMC hospital’s superintendent, holding placards and demanding justice. One of the protesting doctors said, “We are protesting here for the justice of the doctor who was sexually assaulted. We demand a safe environment for the doctors. We also demand that the Central Protection Act for Doctors should be taken seriously. At our hospital itself, there are no proper security arrangements for the doctors.”

Another protesting doctor, Swati Singh, demanded justice and questioned why the issue of doctor protection is only raised after such incidents occur. She assured that treatment for patients would not stop but emphasized the need for justice.

Meanwhile, a patient reported not receiving treatment due to the ongoing protests. The Calcutta High Court has ordered a CBI investigation into the incident and asked the Kolkata Police to hand over all documents to the CBI immediately.

Protesting doctors and medical students have stated that their protests will continue until their demands for installing CCTV cameras, establishing proper security measures, and providing compensation to the victim’s parents are met.
