Doctors in Tripura Protest for Justice After Kolkata Incident
On August 14, resident doctors at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) in Tripura staged a protest against the rape and murder of a resident doctor at RH Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
Demands of the Protesters
Dr. Himanshu from the psychiatric department stated that the doctors had three main demands:
- Immediate punishment for the culprit
- A central Act for the protection of resident doctors
- Installation of CCTV cameras in hospitals
Despite the protest, emergency services remained open for patients.
Support from Indian Medical Association
Dr. Basav Ghosh, State Secretary of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in Tripura, mentioned that the protest was supported by the IMA state branch and AGMC. He emphasized the need for a secure and fearless working environment for doctors across India.

Shivani Kambuj, a resident doctor at AGMC, described the incident as very shameful and stressed the importance of seeking justice through the protest.
