Doctors and artists across India are protesting the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The incident has sparked nationwide outrage and demands for justice.
Protests Across the Country
Doctors from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh held a candle march, raising slogans and banners demanding strict action against the culprits. In Odisha, the Odisha Nursing Employees Association of Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital also organized a candle march, with both nurses and doctors strongly protesting the crime.
Theatre artists from West Bengal joined the protests by staging a midnight march. Following the Indian Medical Association’s call for a nationwide strike, doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi held a protest march on campus, holding posters and raising slogans such as ‘We want justice.’ Similar protests were held in Maharashtra and at AIIMS Mangalagiri.
