Doctors Across India Protest Over Trainee Doctor’s Tragic Death in Kolkata
Four doctors from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata have been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) amid ongoing protests over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor. The CBI will question these postgraduate trainees about the incident.
Accused Sanjoy Roy has been taken for a medical examination by the CBI Special Crime Branch in Kolkata.
Nationwide Protests
Doctors across India have intensified their protests. Junior doctors and medical students at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad and RML Hospital in Delhi have staged protests. Dr. Priyanka from Gandhi Hospital expressed concerns about the safety of her colleagues in Bengal, while Dr. Akash from RML Hospital called for a large gathering at Nirman Bhavan to seek justice and demand a Central Protection Act.

The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) called for a 12-hour general strike in Siliguri, which disrupted normal life. Dr. Shahriar Alam from SUCI (Communist) highlighted the impact of the strike and condemned the vandalism at RG Kar Medical College.
Nationwide Withdrawal of Services
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) announced a nationwide withdrawal of services by doctors of modern medicine from 6 am on August 17 to 6 am on August 18.
On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered on duty at RG Kar Medical College, leading to nationwide strikes and protests by the medical community.
