Doctors and medical students from the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and other institutions across India are protesting for a Central Protection Act for healthcare workers. This follows the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.

AIIMS Delhi’s Stand

Dr. Kumar Kartikay from AIIMS Delhi stated that they will not back down until they receive a written assurance that action will be taken. He mentioned that around 3000-5000 people from various medical colleges in Delhi are expected to join the protest at Nirman Bhawan.

Protests in Andhra Pradesh

Junior doctors and medical students at AIIMS Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh, also staged a protest and performed a street play. Dr. Sreeja, a Senior Resident Doctor, requested a transparent investigation by the CBI and adequate compensation for the victim’s family.

Chandigarh PGIMER’s Ongoing Protest

Medical professionals at Chandigarh PGIMER have been protesting for five days. Patients have expressed their difficulties due to the absence of OPD services and urged the government to meet the doctors’ demands.

Amritsar’s Suspension of Services

The Resident Doctors Association at Government Medical College in Amritsar, Punjab, has announced the suspension of all non-essential and elective hospital services starting August 16 until further notice.
