DMK Plans Protests in Tamil Nadu Over Union Budget 2024
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) announced it would hold protests across Tamil Nadu on July 27, alleging that the Union Government neglected the state in the Union Budget 2024. DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that he is not working for the people but for the parties that support him to stay in power.
Maran said, “I think the time has come for the Prime Minister to take some good advice from and follow our Chief Minister, MK Stalin. When MK Stalin became the CM of Tamil Nadu, he said, ‘I will work not only for the people who voted for me but also for the people who did not vote for me; it is my duty.’ Today, the PM is not working for the people who voted for his party but only for the parties that are supporting him.”
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also alleged discrimination against opposition-ruled states in the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Kharge noted that the budget mentioned projects for only two states, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, and claimed it was designed to save the BJP-led government, which relies on the support of JD-U and TDP.
