DMK MP P Wilson Meets Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal to Discuss Supreme Court Benches and Judges’ Retirement Age

On Thursday, senior advocate and DMK MP P Wilson met with Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal in New Delhi to discuss several important demands. These included the establishment of Regional Supreme Court Benches and increasing the retirement age for judges.

Key Demands

Wilson proposed the creation of permanent regional benches of the Supreme Court in Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai, covering the South, North, West, and East Zones. He also suggested a Constitution Bench in Delhi.

Additionally, Wilson requested to increase the retirement age for High Court judges from 62 to 65 years and for Supreme Court judges from 65 to 70 years through constitutional amendments.

Ensuring Social Justice

Wilson emphasized the importance of a representative judiciary, advocating for social justice and diversity in the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court and High Courts. He also urged the Law Minister to notify the appointments of judges recommended by the Supreme Court collegium that had been withheld or overlooked.

Persistent Efforts

Wilson shared on social media that the Law Minister had assured him that the demands would be looked into. He expressed his belief that persistent efforts will eventually succeed.

Previous Meeting

Last week, Wilson met with Meghwal at Parliament to present a representation to stop the implementation of the Three Criminal Laws.
