DMK Leaders Kanimozhi and Maran Demand NEET Exemption for Tamil Nadu

New Delhi [India], June 27: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP K Kanimozhi has reiterated the demand to exempt Tamil Nadu from the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for medical admissions across the country.

Kanimozhi stated, “Tamil Nadu has been consistently saying that we do not want NEET. Now it is proved that NEET is not a fair examination and students are losing so much because of NEET.” She mentioned that the state assembly passed a resolution to scrap the national-level entrance exam and also exempt the state from the same. “We want the NEET to be abolished. We have passed a resolution in our Assembly and it is still pending with the President for signature,” she added.

DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran reiterated the party’s demand, referring to NEET as the “biggest fraud” and questioned why students in Tamil Nadu are being punished. He also linked NEET to student suicides in Kota. Earlier, DMK leader TKS Elangovan alleged that NEET favors the rich and is riddled with fraud, demanding its abolition.

Amid the controversy, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a criminal case over alleged irregularities in the NEET 2024 exam, which was held on May 5, 2024. The exam saw 67 candidates achieve perfect scores, leading to widespread protests. The Ministry of Education has formed a high-level committee to recommend reforms in the examination process and improve data security protocols.
