In Guwahati, Assam, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Assam government, has announced Diptimoyee Choudhury as their candidate for the Bongaigaon seat in the upcoming by-election. Diptimoyee is the wife of Lok Sabha MP Phani Bhushan Choudhury. Despite some opposition within the party, her candidacy was supported by senior AGP leader and MP Atul Bora, who expressed confidence in the continued support of Bongaigaon’s residents.

Atul Bora congratulated Diptimoyee Choudhury, emphasizing Bongaigaon’s historical support for AGP and the party’s commitment to the development and protection of the indigenous Assamese community. Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, also welcomed her nomination, expressing confidence in the NDA’s continued growth in Bongaigaon.

In addition to AGP’s announcement, the United People’s Party Liberal has nominated Nirmal Kumar Brahma for the Sidli seat. The Bharatiya Janata Party has named candidates for Behali, Dholai, and Samaguri, with Diganta Ghatowar, Diplu Ranjan Sarma, and Nihar Ranjan Das contesting, respectively. The opposition Congress party has also announced candidates for Sidli, Bongaigaon, Samaguri, and Dholai, including Tanzil Hussain for Samaguri and Dhrubajyoti Purakayastha for Dholai.

The by-elections for the five assembly constituencies in Assam, including Behali, Dhalai, Bongaigaon, Sidli, and Samaguri, are scheduled for November 13. These seats became vacant after the previous MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha.
