Dinesh Karthik Praises India’s Talented Wicketkeepers and Embraces New Coaching Role
Former cricketer Dinesh Karthik has expressed optimism about the current pool of wicketkeepers in India. He believes that having many talented players to choose from is a sign of a healthy Indian cricket team.
Talented Wicketkeepers
India has a mix of young and experienced wicketkeepers, including Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel, and Ishan Kishan. The competition among them has allowed India to experiment and nurture players. Karthik sees this strong base as a positive sign for Indian cricket.
Jurel and Pant are part of India’s squad for the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh. Pant’s return to the team after a serious accident in December 2022 has motivated Jurel to work hard for his spot. Pant impressed everyone with a 109-run performance in the opening Test in Chennai. Karthik’s New Phase
After ending his impressive career in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Karthik has started a new phase. Karthik represented India in 180 games across three formats, scoring 3,463 runs with one Test hundred and 17 half-centuries. He also had 172 dismissals, mostly as a wicketkeeper. In the IPL, he scored 4,842 runs in 257 matches, tying for the second-most with Rohit Sharma, and hit 22 fifties.
