New Delhi [India], August 1: After a video of a woman being harassed went viral, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav has called for the Uttar Pradesh government to restart the 1090 women’s helpline. The video from Lucknow showed a woman on a bike being harassed by a group of men.

Yadav stated, “The government must take action on this. There are videos and recordings of this, so the government can easily identify the people who did this. They had so proudly formed squads like the Romeo squad and Juliet squad are just namesake and have not done anything.”

She also commented on the increasing number of harassment cases and reiterated the need for the 1090 helpline. “The number of harassing cases against women have been on the rise lately. The Uttar Pradesh government needs to restart the 1090 helpline for the women,” she said.

In another incident, a man was arrested in Greater Noida for the rape of a minor following a police encounter. According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), a case was registered based on an application received regarding the rape of a minor girl in Sadarpur under Noida Sector-39 police station area. The police traced and arrested the accused with the help of electronic surveillance and local intelligence.
