Paris [France], July 26: The Indian men’s archery team, featuring Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Jadhav, has secured a direct berth in the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics 2024. They achieved this by finishing third in the Men’s Archery Ranking Round with 2013 points.

Dhiraj Bommadevara expressed his excitement, stating, “I am very happy with my performance today. We have been preparing for the games for the last two years and we are on the right track… We are focusing on what we are supposed to do.”

The Indian women’s archery team, consisting of Bhajan Kaur, Deepika Kumari, and Ankita Bhakat, also qualified directly for the quarterfinals by finishing fourth with 1983 points. Ankita Bhakat shared, “I scored my best today. I cannot say that I am satisfied, but I think I performed well. I could have done better… My best is yet to come.” Bhajan Kaur added, “Everything went well. We will try to perform even better because a lot of competition is yet to come… We have become used to the wind and the weather in Paris as we came here some time ago.”

Badminton star PV Sindhu and table tennis veteran Sharath Kamal will lead the Indian contingent at the Paris 2024 Parade of Nations. A 29-member athletics team led by Neeraj Chopra and a 21-member shooting team will also be part of the contingent. This is the largest shooting team India has ever sent to the Olympics.

India’s first shot at a medal will be during the mixed team air rifle medal matches on July 27. The archers, including Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai, will compete in individual ranking rounds on July 25. Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic and World champion javelin thrower, will be in action in August.

Other notable athletes include PV Sindhu, aiming for a third Olympic medal, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, and boxer Lovlina Borgohain. The 16 sports India will compete in are archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and tennis.

The Olympics will conclude on August 11, and India aims to surpass its seven-medal tally from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Indian viewers can watch the event on Sports18 1 SD and Sports18 1 HD TV channels, with live streaming available on Jio Cinema for free.
