Paris [France], September 5: Dharambir, a gold medallist at the Paris Paralympics, dedicated his medal to his coach and compatriot Amit Kumar Saroha. Dharambir set a new Asian Record with a throw of 34.92m in the men’s club throw F51 final, securing the gold medal.

Amit Kumar Saroha, who also competed, finished with a best attempt of 23.96m. Despite not winning a medal, Amit expressed his joy, saying, “I am not missing that today, as we won two medals and our national anthem was played. I cannot get a better gift than this.”

Pranav Soorma, another Indian athlete, won the silver medal with a throw of 34.59m. Pranav shared his pride, stating, “It is a proud moment, and it felt good that we won two medals in an event in which the country has won no medal in the past.”

In the men’s shot put F46 event, Sachin Sarjerao Khilari won the silver medal with a throw of 16.32m, narrowly missing the gold by 0.6m. Sachin expressed his happiness, saying, “I am happy that I finished on the podium. The way I started. I have read about Devendra Jhajharia, he is there in para games, and that inspired me.”

Sachin’s coach, N Satyanarayana, added, “Any player of the country won a medal, it’s an award for me. I have said that we will get more than 25 medals, and today, we will cross that.”

The Indian contingent has won 25 medals at the Paris Paralympics, including five gold, nine silver, and 11 bronze, placing India in the 14th position in the medal tally. This surpasses India’s previous best of 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics.
