DEWA Issues First EV Charging Licences in Dubai

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has granted the first two Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO) licences for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Dubai to Tesla and UAEV. This initiative is part of DEWA’s new Regulatory and Licensing Framework aimed at developing EV charging infrastructure in Dubai, supporting green mobility, and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

During a special event at GITEX Global 2024, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, presented the licences to Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs and Chairman of UAEV, and Mottie Benhamou, Market Leader – Tesla UAE. The framework encourages collaboration between public and private sectors to meet the rising demand for EV charging stations.
