Devprakash Madhukar Surrenders in Hathras Stampede Case

Devprakash Madhukar, the main suspect in the Hathras stampede that claimed 121 lives, has surrendered to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Special Task Force (STF), and the police. His lawyer, AP Singh, confirmed this in a video message, stating that Madhukar is now in police custody and will cooperate fully with the investigation. Singh also mentioned that Madhukar is a heart patient and should be treated with care.

Rahul Gandhi visited Hathras to meet the families affected by the stampede. He also stopped in Aligarh to meet other victims’ families. The stampede occurred during a religious event in Fulari village when devotees rushed to collect soil from around the preacher’s feet, leading to chaos.

Union Minister Nityanand Rai stated that the Central government is supporting the Uttar Pradesh government in the investigation. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. A three-member Judicial Inquiry Commission, led by Justice (retd) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava, has been formed to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation. The commission will submit its report in two months.
