This year, the six-day festival started on November 2. Devotees observe various fasting practices to honor the deity, culminating in the ‘Soora Samharam’ event, which marks the destruction of evil by Kartikeya, son of Shiva. This is followed by the celestial wedding of Lord Murugan with Devasena.
The ‘Soora Samharam’ event at the Tiruchendur temple attracts many devotees from Tamil Nadu and southeast Asia. A devotee mentioned, “This day is very special for Lord Murugan, and the Skanda Sashti fasting concludes today. The main event, Soora Samharam, will be held this evening.”
