Devotees Flock to Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati After Ambubachi Mela
The Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam, reopened its doors after the annual Ambubachi Mela, drawing numerous pilgrims from India and abroad. The temple, located on Nilachal Hill, is a significant Shakti shrine and a major pilgrimage site.
The Ambubachi Mela, celebrating the yearly menstruation of Goddess Kamakhya, concluded with the Nivritti ritual. Devotees expressed their joy and devotion, with many visiting for the first time.
Varsha Sharma, a visitor from Madhya Pradesh, said, “I liked it a lot and I got to see mother. I have come for the first time.” Pusha Dubey, another devotee, added, “If mother calls me, I will come again.”
The head priest of Kamakhya Temple, Kabindra Prasad Sarma-Doloi, noted that around 25 lakh devotees attended last year’s festival.
The Kamakhya temple, located 7 km from Guwahati, is one of the biggest Shakti shrines in the country. Situated on the Nilachal hills, this temple is an important pilgrimage centre for tantric worshippers and Hindus. Several other pujas are organised in this temple, including Durga Puja, Durgadeul, Madandeul, Manasa Puja, Pohan Biya, and Vasanti Puja.
