Devotees Flock to Baba Baidyanath Dham and Other Temples on Last Monday of Sawan
Deoghar, Jharkhand – On the last Monday of the holy month of Sawan, a large number of devotees gathered at Baba Baidyanath Dham in Jharkhand to offer prayers to Lord Shiva. Devotees carried pooja thalis with offerings like milk, honey, sandalwood paste, water, and Bel patra, waiting patiently for their turn.
Sawan is considered the most auspicious month dedicated to Lord Shiva, with devotees observing fasts on each Monday. Baba Baidyanath Dham is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India and is regarded as one of the most sacred abodes of Lord Shiva. Devotees from various places traveled to this temple to offer prayers.
Similarly, a large number of devotees gathered at Gujarat’s Somnath Temple and Madhya Pradesh’s Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain district to offer prayers on the last Monday of Sawan. At Mahakaleshwar Temple, devotees participated in a special ‘Bhasma Aarti’ performed on this occasion.
Sawan holds a special place in Hindu mythology as the month when Lord Shiva is believed to have consumed poison from the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan), saving the universe. Devotees undertake fasts, chant Shiva mantras, sing bhajans, and perform Rudrabhishek during this period to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings.
