On the third Monday of the sacred month of Shravan, devotees gathered at Ayodhya’s Saryu River and Nageshwar Nath Temple to worship Lord Shiva. Early in the morning, they bathed in the holy river and then proceeded to the temple for prayers.

Omprakash Panda, president of the Panda Society, explained that bathing in holy rivers and performing charitable acts hold special significance during Shravan Monday. He noted that millions of devotees come to Ramnagri, bathe in the Saryu River, and worship in the temples due to their beliefs.

Shravan, typically falling between July and August, is a sacred month in the Hindu religion dedicated to Lord Shiva. It commemorates the time when Lord Shiva consumed poison from the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan) to save the universe. Devotees observe fasting, offer prayers, and perform rituals like Rudrabhishek during this period.

The cooling rains of Shravan symbolize Shiva’s compassion and benevolence. Devotees often fast on Mondays, chant Shiva mantras, sing bhajans (devotional songs), and perform Rudrabhishek with holy substances.
