Devotees Celebrate Shravan at Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi
On the fourth Monday of the holy month of Shravan, devotees across various cities in Uttar Pradesh visited temples to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.

In Varanasi, devotees flocked to Kashi Vishwanath Temple after bathing in the Ganga. Shashank Shekar Tripathi, a devotee from Baliya, praised the security arrangement at the temple’s premises. ‘Security and management is very good here. We got to offer our prayers to Baba (Lord Shiva) with ease,’ he said. Maruti Nandan, another devotee from Chnadoli, said, ‘Baba’s view is wonderful, we are lucky to offer our prayers to Baba today.’
Other Cities Join In
Devotees also thronged Prayagraj’s Mankameshwar Temple to offer prayers. Shakuntla Gupta, a devotee from Prayagraj, said, ‘We offered water to the lord and prayed to god for our wellness.’ In Ayodhya, devotees visited Nageshwar Nath Temple, and similar scenes were seen in Kanpur and other cities.
The Significance of Shravan
Shravan month is considered the month of Lord Shiva. It is believed that devotees who worship Lord Shiva this month receive many blessings. This sacred month, typically falling between July and August, is a period of worship, fasting, and pilgrimage dedicated to Lord Shiva. Shravan holds a special place in Hindu mythology as the month when Lord Shiva is believed to have consumed the poison that emerged from the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan), saving the universe from its toxic effects. The cooling rains of Sawan are symbolic of Shiva’s compassion and benevolence.
