Devendra Fadnavis Discusses Maharashtra Elections and Chief Minister Prospects
As the Maharashtra Assembly elections approach, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared his thoughts on the political landscape. Speaking at NDTV Marathi’s election conclave, Fadnavis humorously addressed the perception of him as a potential Chief Minister, stating that it is a solution, not a problem. However, he clarified that this does not imply he will become the next Chief Minister.
Fadnavis emphasized that the ruling Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, does not need to announce a Chief Minister candidate before the elections. He highlighted that Eknath Shinde is the current Chief Minister and leads the government effectively.
Criticizing the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Fadnavis pointed out their lack of a clear Chief Minister candidate, suggesting that they are uncertain about their leadership post-elections. He stated that the question of a Chief Minister face is more relevant to the MVA than to the Mahayuti.
The main electoral contest is between the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition MVA, which includes the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress. Both alliances are ramping up their efforts as the elections, scheduled for November 20, draw near. The results for all 288 assembly constituencies will be announced on November 23.
