Devendra Fadnavis Announces New Police Appointments and Projects to Tackle Pune’s Traffic and Safety
In Pune, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced new measures to address the city’s growing traffic congestion. An Additional Police Commissioner and a Deputy Commissioner of Police will be appointed to manage the traffic department, which will now be led by an officer of Additional Commissioner rank. This change aims to improve the traffic situation in Pune.
Fadnavis made these announcements during an event organized by the state home department, where he also inaugurated several infrastructure projects for the police department. These projects include the creation of seven new police stations in areas like Ambegaon, Nanded City, Baner, Kharadi, Wagholi, Kalepadal, and Fursungi. To support these new stations, 816 new posts will be created in the Pune City Police.
Fadnavis emphasized the importance of integrating technology into policing, mentioning the use of AI and drones for traffic management and law enforcement. A contract with Google has been signed to enhance policing quality using AI and CCTV integration. The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted Pune’s rapid urbanization and its status as a key economic hub, necessitating reforms in policing to address increasing challenges.
He also announced the second phase of a CCTV project in Pune, which will see the installation of 2,886 cameras, including face and vehicle number plate recognition cameras, to enhance city surveillance and crime evidence collection. This project is valued at approximately 433 crore rupees.
