In Rawalpindi, Pakistan, the number of dengue cases has surged, with 95 new cases reported in a single day, marking the highest daily count. Since January 2024, the total number of cases has reached 2,736. Currently, 229 patients are receiving treatment, and six deaths have been reported this year. Over the past week, 997 new cases have been identified in Punjab, bringing the total to 3,285 for 2024.

The Punjab Health Department has reported a significant increase in dengue cases, with 149 new cases in the last 24 hours. Rawalpindi is the most affected area, with 134 cases, while Bahawalpur and Lahore reported three and two cases, respectively. Other affected areas include Sheikhupura, Jhelum, Faisalabad, Attock, Kasur, Mianwali, Khanewal, Nankana Sahib, and Narowal, each reporting one case.

The health department assures that all necessary measures are in place to combat the outbreak, with sufficient medicine stocks in public hospitals. Public vigilance and preventive measures are emphasized as crucial to controlling the virus spread. On October 9, Rawalpindi declared a district-wide emergency, with the Deputy Commissioner announcing urgent actions, including setting up emergency dengue counters.
