A year after the violent clash between two groups of lawyers at Delhi’s Tis Hazari court, the case has been moved to the Sessions court. Arguments on charges are expected to start in mid-July.

Details of the Incident

On July 5, 2023, a violent clash involving firing and stone pelting occurred between two groups of lawyers at the Tis Hazari Court premises. The incident was captured on CCTV and went viral.

Legal Proceedings

A charge sheet was filed on September 3, 2023, under various sections of the IPC and Arms Act against eight accused: Shiv Ram Pandey, Lalit Sharma, Manish Sharma, Sandeep Sharma, Sachin Sangwan, Ravi Gupta, Aman Singh, and Jeetesh Khari. The Delhi police cited 32 prosecution witnesses and included CCTV footage and an FSL report in the charge sheet.

All accused are currently on bail and are required to appear before the Principal District and Sessions Judge on July 18. The case will then be assigned to an additional Sessions Judge for further proceedings.

Investigation Findings

During the investigation, Delhi police recovered six country-made pistols and a large quantity of ammunition from the accused. The Bar Council of Delhi suspended the enrollment of the accused counsels during its inquiry.
