Delhi’s LNJP Hospital Confirms Monkeypox Case
Dr. Suresh Kumar and Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj Speak Out
Dr. Suresh Kumar, Medical Director of LNJP Hospital in Delhi, confirmed a case of monkeypox and urged the public to stay calm. The patient, who has a travel history, is stable and in isolation.
Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj conducted a surprise inspection at LNJP Hospital to review the preparedness for dengue and monkeypox. He confirmed that the patient got infected while traveling abroad and is currently stable.
Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra issued an advisory to states and union territories, highlighting the necessary public health actions to prevent or minimize the risk of monkeypox. The advisory includes the Ministry’s ‘Guidelines for Management of Monkeypox Disease’ and an updated communicable disease alert from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
Monkeypox, now known as Mpox, has been a public health issue in parts of Africa for many years and became a global concern in 2022.
