New Delhi [India], June 28: The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, convened an emergency meeting with various city agencies including the Delhi Jal Board, Public Works Department, and Delhi Police, among others. The meeting aimed to address the city’s waterlogging and drainage issues caused by pre-monsoon rains.

Key Actions and Directions

During the meeting, VK Saxena noted the lack of preparedness and issued 11 immediate action directions:

  • Establish a 24×7 emergency control room with a public contact number for reporting waterlogging incidents.
  • Utilize mobile pumps to manage waterlogging.
  • Traffic police to issue regular advisories in case of waterlogging.
  • The Irrigation and Flood Control Department to coordinate with counterparts in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh to assess rainfall levels and discharges from the Hathnikund barrage.

Current Situation

Earlier today, people waded through waterlogged streets in several parts of the city. BJP councillor Ravinder Singh Negi was seen rowing an inflatable boat on NH9 road as a symbolic protest against AAP. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the Safdarjung observatory recorded 228mm of rainfall, marking the second-highest 24-hour rainfall in June since 1936.
