Minister Gopal Rai Launches Anti-Smog Guns
On Friday, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai initiated a campaign to combat rising air pollution in the city by deploying 200 anti-smog guns. These guns will be spread across Delhi to help control the air quality, which had reached hazardous levels post-Diwali.
Minister Rai highlighted that the Air Quality Index (AQI) had crossed 350, with expectations of it surpassing 400. However, due to the efforts of Delhi’s residents, the AQI was recorded at 360. The government plans to increase water sprinkling across the city to further manage pollution levels.
Despite predictions of worsening air quality after Diwali, the pollution levels remained under control, thanks to the responsible actions of Delhi’s citizens who chose to light diyas instead of bursting firecrackers. Minister Rai praised the public’s efforts and expressed hope for continued improvement in the future.
Areas like Anand Vihar, Aya Nagar, Jahangirpuri, and Dwarka reported ‘very poor’ air quality, with AQI readings of 395, 352, 390, and 376, respectively. The pollution problem extended beyond Delhi, affecting cities like Chennai and Mumbai, where smog and poor air quality were also reported.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data indicated significant pollution levels nationwide, especially after Diwali, raising health concerns for residents.
