Delhi’s Battle Against Pollution: Gopal Rai’s Drone Initiative
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has announced a new initiative to combat the city’s rising air pollution. The government will use drones to monitor pollution hotspots across Delhi. This is part of a broader winter action plan aimed at reducing pollution from vehicles and biomass burning.
Drone Monitoring in Wazirpur
On Friday, Minister Rai visited the Wazirpur industrial area, one of the 13 identified pollution hotspots. He explained that drones would capture images within a 200-meter range to identify pollution sources. These images will be analyzed, and reports will be submitted to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and the Environment Department.
Current Air Quality Concerns
Delhi’s air quality remains a concern, with an AQI of 283 recorded on Friday morning. Other areas like Anand Vihar, Punjabi Bagh, India Gate, and Jhilmil Industrial Area also reported high AQI levels.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud expressed concerns about the pollution, noting health risks. Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena suggested using Civil Defence Volunteers to aid in pollution mitigation efforts.
