Delhi’s Air Quality Worsens Post-Diwali
On Wednesday morning, Delhi’s air quality remained ‘very poor’ with a thin layer of smog covering the city for the sixth consecutive day after Diwali. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 358 at 8 am. Various areas like Alipur, Bawana, and Mundka recorded AQIs over 400, indicating severe pollution levels.

Thick toxic foam was observed on the Yamuna River in Kalindi Kunj, highlighting high pollution levels in the river.
Supreme Court Questions Firecracker Ban
The Supreme Court questioned the Delhi government on the ineffective enforcement of the firecracker ban during Diwali. Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih asked for an affidavit detailing steps taken to tackle pollution and enforce the ban. Additional Solicitor General Archana Pathak Dave reported a significant increase in pollution on Diwali, with levels rising from 10% to 27%.
