Delhi Water Minister Atishi Updates on Munak Canal Repair and Water Supply Restoration
New Delhi, July 12: A day after the Munak canal barrage broke down, Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi announced that repair work is progressing rapidly. The broken part of the embankment has been filled and compacted, and the Dwarka Water Treatment Plant is expected to resume operations by Saturday morning.
Atishi shared on social media, ‘The repair work of the Munak Canal is going on at a war footing. The broken part of the embankment has been filled with soil; its levelling and compaction have been done. Now the RCC work of lining the canal is going on. It is likely to be completed by 9 pm. After that, water will be released from Haryana. It takes 5-6 hours for water to arrive. It is expected that the Dwarka Water Treatment Plant will start operating from tomorrow morning.’
Earlier, severe waterlogging was reported in the JJ colony of Bawana in Northwest Delhi after the Munak canal barrage broke down. Dewatering machines were used to clear the waterlogging, and NDRF teams were dispatched to evacuate affected residents. Delhi LG VK Saxena and other officials are overseeing the situation to ensure timely restoration and relief measures.
