Delhi Water Minister Atishi on Hunger Strike Over Water Shortage, LG VK Saxena Responds

New Delhi, June 22: Delhi Water Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi is on her second day of an indefinite hunger strike. She claims that Haryana is supplying 100 million gallons per day (MGD) less water to Delhi, affecting 28 lakh people.

LG VK Saxena’s Response

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena criticized the AAP-led Delhi government, accusing them of playing the same blame game every year. He expressed his frustration over the recurring water crisis and the government’s approach to governance.

Atishi’s Stand

Atishi stated that she had no choice but to go on a hunger strike after Haryana did not agree to supply the required water. She highlighted that Delhi receives 1005 MGD of water, with 613 MGD coming from Haryana, but recently only 513 MGD has been supplied.

Political Reactions

BJP leaders, including Shehzad Poonawalla and Bansuri Swaraj, accused the AAP government of orchestrating the crisis and protecting the water tanker mafia. They claimed that Haryana is sending enough water and that the Supreme Court has acknowledged this.

Public Impact

Residents of Delhi are facing severe water shortages, relying on water tankers for their daily needs. Long queues and high temperatures have made the situation worse. People in areas like Sanjay Colony, Chilla Village, and Geeta Colony are struggling to get clean water.
