Delhi University Introduces Strict Anti-Ragging Measures for 2024-25
Delhi University has announced new strict penalties for ragging to ensure a safer campus environment. These penalties include suspension, expulsion, degree cancellation, withholding of results, and barring from classes and exams.
Proctorial Board Meeting
On July 25, the University of Delhi held a Proctorial Board meeting to discuss measures to prevent ragging in the upcoming academic session 2024-25. The university issued a notification listing 11 anti-ragging measures, a complaint mechanism, and punishments for ragging.
Anti-Ragging Undertaking
All students and hostel residents, along with their parents or guardians, are required to sign an anti-ragging undertaking at the time of admission.
Anti-Ragging Events
DU will observe Anti-Ragging Day on August 12, followed by Anti-Ragging Week from August 12 to 18, to raise awareness about the dangers and consequences of ragging.
Control Rooms and Reporting
Two joint control rooms will be established on the North and South campuses, operational from August 1 to August 10, 2024. Students can report ragging through the UGC Anti-Ragging Helpline, the anti-ragging web portal, and local police contacts.
Enforcement and Monitoring
Anti-ragging posters in English and Hindi will be placed throughout the campuses. Colleges and hostels will restrict outsider entry and display anti-ragging rules. Each college, faculty, department, and hostel will form Anti-Ragging/Disciplinary Committees and Vigilance Squads. Police pickets will be stationed outside every college, with special assistance for women’s colleges, and plainclothes women officers will patrol the university premises.
