Delhi University Changes Rules for Guest Faculty Appointments
Delhi University has introduced new regulations for appointing guest faculty. These appointments can now only be made against specific leave vacancies, such as maternity leave, child care leave, and study leave. This decision has faced opposition from faculty members who believe it will increase their workload and negatively impact the teaching and learning process.

In a letter to colleges, the university emphasized that guest faculty appointments should be made strictly against leave vacancies, including maternity leave, child care leave, study leave, sabbatical leave, medical leave, and extraordinary leave. The university also urged colleges to fill up vacant teaching posts regularly by following due processes and procedures.
Faculty Members’ Concerns
Faculty members have expressed their disappointment with the new directive. Abha Dev Habib, a faculty member at Miranda House, stated that the notification would negatively affect the teaching-learning process and increase the workload for current teachers. She also mentioned that previous academic reforms and delayed admissions have already harmed the university’s reputation.
Mithuraaj Dhusiya, an elected member of the Academic Council, echoed these concerns. He highlighted additional issues such as the lack of sanctioned posts to meet EWS reservation in admissions and the absence of permanent recruitment in some colleges funded by the Delhi Government. Dhusiya warned that the existing staff would not be able to manage the increased workload, leading to chaos in the university.
