Delhi University Cancels Fee Hike for Degree Corrections After Protests

New Delhi [India], July 12: Delhi University (DU) has decided not to increase the fees for corrections in degree certificates and mark sheets after protests from Academic Council (AC) members.

Initial Fee Hike Plan

DU had announced plans to double the charges for those seeking corrections in their degree certificates or mark sheets. The recommendations for the fee hike were made by a committee formed by Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh and were initially approved on June 4.

Details of the Proposed Fee Hike

The fee for corrections in mark sheets within six years from the date of graduation was set to increase from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000, and from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 for corrections made after six years. Similar increases were proposed for degree certificates.

Protests and Rollback

After a discussion in the AC meeting on Friday, the proposed fee hike was rolled back. Mithuraaj Dhusiya, an elected member of the Academic Council, stated, “After a thorough discussion in the AC meeting, we ensured that the fee hike is rolled back.”
