Delhi Police Drops Coach Jagbeer Singh as Witness in Wrestlers’ Case

In New Delhi, the Delhi police have decided to drop coach Jagbeer Singh as a witness in the ongoing case involving allegations of sexual harassment by women wrestlers. Initially, he was listed as a prosecution witness, but the court has now scheduled the recording of evidence from another victim wrestler.

Court Proceedings

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Priyanka Rajpoot recorded the statement from Special Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava, who explained that Jagbeer Singh’s testimony was similar to that of other witnesses who have already testified about the incident in Lucknow. The next hearing is set for November 4.

Accused’s Application

Meanwhile, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Chief and one of the accused, has applied for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to obtain his passport. During the last hearing, referee Narender was cross-examined by defense counsel Rajiv Mohan. Narender confirmed his presence at a photo session in Lucknow in March 2022, where both Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and the victim wrestlers were present.

Cross-Examination Details

Defense counsel Rajiv Mohan questioned Narender about his actions following the incident, including whether he contacted any victims or participated in a protest by women wrestlers at Jantar Mantar in January 2023. Narender stated he did not join the protest as he was a government employee. The defense also presented a Facebook post showing Narender with wrestlers, which he clarified was from an Akhada meeting and not posted by him.
