Delhi Police Seizes Illegal Firecrackers
In a significant operation, the Delhi Police arrested three individuals and confiscated over 1,300 kilograms of illegal firecrackers from two locations in the city. The arrested individuals are Manoj Kumar, Sanjay Atri, and Vipin Kumar. The police’s crime branch uncovered a supply chain of illegal firecrackers in various parts of Delhi, seizing 1,323 kg of banned crackers from two storage facilities.
Details of the Operation
The operation began with a tip-off about illegal firecracker activities in Village Baprola, Outer Delhi. Manoj Kumar was identified as running the illegal trade, distributing firecrackers throughout Delhi. A raid at a godown in Village Baprola led to the recovery of a large quantity of illegal firecrackers. Manoj Kumar and Sanjay Atri, the driver involved in the distribution, were apprehended.
Further Raids and Arrests
Following the initial arrests, further interrogation revealed that the firecrackers were also being supplied to Prem Nagar and Kirari areas. This led to another raid at a godown on Main Majri Road, Roop Vihar, Mubarakpur Dabas, Kirari, where more illegal firecrackers were found, and Vipin Kumar, the godown owner, was arrested.
Legal Actions and Ongoing Investigation
The police have registered a case under section 288 BNS and 9B of the Explosive Act-1884. The investigation is ongoing to uncover more details about the illegal trade. This operation follows a previous arrest in September for smuggling 65 kg of illegal fireworks into Delhi.
Government Ban on Firecrackers
The Delhi government has imposed a complete ban on the production, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers to combat air pollution during winter. This ban is effective until January 1, 2025.
