Delhi Police Arrests 74 Narco Offenders in Major Operation Kavach-5 Raid

New Delhi, September 3: The Delhi Police conducted a massive raid under Operation Kavach-5, targeting drug offenders across the city. Between August 31 and September 1, police teams raided 325 locations in 15 districts, resulting in the arrest of 74 narco offenders.

Details of the Operation

During the raids, the police recovered a significant amount of drugs, including 108.93 grams of heroin, 66.28 kg of ganja, 1100 grams of charas, and 16 grams of MDMA. Additionally, 54 cases under the Delhi Excise Act were registered, leading to the arrest of 54 individuals and the seizure of 78 bottles of illicit liquor, 24 beers, 5089 quarters of illicit liquor, and one Scooty used in bootlegging.

Yearly Statistics

In 2024, up until August 31, the Delhi Police has arrested 961 narco offenders in 695 NDPS cases, recovering large quantities of various drugs, including 65.086 kg of heroin/smack, 1.912 kg of cocaine, 2258.379 kg of ganja, 102.345 kg of opium, 42.606 kg of charas, and 73.06 kg of poppy head.

Operation Kavach

Operation Kavach was launched in May 2023 to combat drug trafficking in Delhi. The operation targets both street-level dealers and high-level traffickers using a top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top approach. Four operations have been conducted so far, resulting in significant drug seizures and arrests.

Impact and Future Plans

The raids have caused fear among drug peddlers, leading to a temporary halt in drug sales and a reduction in the quantity of contraband entering the city. Many major drug traffickers have gone underground, and some have moved their storehouses outside Delhi. The police are also focusing on creating awareness among the public to reduce the demand for drugs.

Delhi Police emphasized the importance of a zero-tolerance approach against drugs, as envisioned by the Union Home Minister. They urged parents, teachers, and social reformers to educate the youth about the dangers of drug addiction.
