Delhi MLAs Urge President Murmu to Dismiss AAP Government Led by Arvind Kejriwal

A group of members from the Delhi Legislative Assembly, led by Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, met with President Droupadi Murmu on Friday. They appealed for her urgent intervention in what they describe as a constitutional crisis in Delhi.

The delegation, which included MLAs Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Mahawar, Abhay Verma, Anil Bajpai, Jitender Mahajan, Kartar Singh Tanwar, and former Delhi minister Rajkumar Anand, submitted a memorandum highlighting their concerns about the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The memorandum stated that critical orders requiring the Chief Minister’s signature have been delayed, leading to a breakdown in governance. It also mentioned that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been in jail for over four months on serious corruption charges related to the Delhi excise policy scam but has refused to resign.

The delegation claimed that essential administrative decisions are being mishandled, and there is a lack of accountability at the highest levels of government. They also pointed out the failure to constitute the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission, which has been due since April 2021, affecting financial planning and resource allocation for the city.

The memorandum detailed rampant corruption and financial irregularities within the AAP government, including the multi-crore Delhi Liquor Scam and issues in the Delhi Jal Board. The delegation urged President Murmu to dismiss the current government and restore constitutional order in Delhi.

Vijender Gupta, referring to the memorandum, said, “The AAP government has lost all moral right to govern and has blatantly deceived the mandate given by the people of Delhi. We are calling on the President to dismiss this government and take immediate action to restore constitutional order in Delhi.”
