Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj Promises Justice for Shooting at GTB Hospital
Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has vowed that those responsible for the shooting at Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital will face justice. He also announced a review of security measures at all hospitals.
The Incident
The shooting occurred on Sunday evening, when a patient named Riyazuddin was shot dead at the hospital. Bhardwaj stated, “Negligence in such cases will not be tolerated. Whoever is guilty will not be spared. The security of all hospitals will be reviewed.”
Law and Order Concerns
Bhardwaj criticized the current law and order situation, saying, “In the last two years, the law and order situation has deteriorated under LG Saxena. Most of the forces are occupied with VIP duties, and night patrols by constables have also been stopped.”
Police Investigation
According to police, the shooting occurred at around 4:20 pm. A PCR call was received from ward No. 24 of GTB Hospital, reporting that a patient had been shot and killed. Additional DCP Shahdara Vishnu Sharma said, “Our team arrived at the scene and confirmed that the deceased was Riyazuddin. Five empty bullet casings were found, and we are investigating whether there was any rivalry or motive behind the attack. The probe to identify the accused through CCTV footage is ongoing.”
Victim’s Family
Riyazuddin’s wife claimed that her husband was a victim of mistaken identity. She said, “I met my husband yesterday. When I arrived at the hospital, I learned that he had been shot dead. They had come here to kill someone else but mistakenly shot my husband.” She added, “A person admitted to another ward had threats against him, and it seems the shooters intended to kill him but ended up shooting my husband instead.”
