Delhi Minister Gopal Rai Urges Meeting for Artificial Rain to Combat Pollution
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has written to Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, requesting an urgent meeting to discuss using artificial rain to tackle pollution in Delhi. With Diwali approaching, Rai highlighted the potential for hazardous air quality in early November and noted a delay in cloud seeding efforts. He emphasized the need for coordination among stakeholders, including the Ministry of Environment, to implement cloud seeding as an emergency measure.
Rai mentioned that institutions like IIT Kanpur have prepared presentations on cloud seeding, which have been sent to the Union Environment Ministry. He stressed the importance of obtaining clearances from various government agencies to proceed with cloud seeding.
On October 9, Rai met with construction agencies to address dust pollution, part of Delhi’s winter action plan. The government launched an anti-dust campaign on October 7, inspecting construction sites and penalizing those not following rules. A ‘Green Delhi’ app and bio-decomposer spraying are also part of the plan, with future initiatives targeting vehicle and biomass pollution.
