Delhi Minister Atishi Urges Railway Minister to Address Waterlogging at Zakhira Underpass

New Delhi, August 20: Delhi Minister Atishi has written to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw regarding severe waterlogging at the Zakhira underpass in Delhi. In her letter, Atishi pointed out that the main cause of the waterlogging is the lack of a drain culvert on Indian Railways land, which prevents proper channelization of water to nearby drains.

Atishi explained that an agreement was made for the construction of an additional drain and culvert, with costs shared between the Railways and the Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi Government. The PWD deposited its share of Rs 2.70 crore on July 18, 2023, but no culvert has been built yet.

She emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that moderate rainfall today led to up to 2 feet of water accumulating at the underpass, causing traffic disruptions and necessitating barricades to prevent accidents. Atishi urged the Railway Minister to find an immediate solution to prevent further suffering for the people of Delhi.

Earlier today, the Delhi BJP Unit criticized Atishi and the AAP government for the waterlogging issues following the moderate rains.
