Delhi Minister Atishi Ends Hunger Strike Over Water Crisis, Admitted to Hospital

New Delhi [India], June 25: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh announced that Delhi Minister Atishi has ended her indefinite hunger strike due to health concerns. Atishi had been protesting against the Haryana government for not releasing 100 million gallons per day (MGD) of water, leading to a severe water crisis in Delhi.

At a press conference, Singh explained that Atishi’s health had deteriorated significantly, with her blood sugar levels dropping dangerously low. She was admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday and remains in the ICU.

Despite ending the hunger strike, Singh assured that the AAP will continue to raise the issue in Parliament and will write to the Prime Minister to demand Delhi’s rightful share of water. He also mentioned that the Lieutenant Governor (LG) had spoken to the Haryana Chief Minister, who assured that Delhi would receive water.

The AAP alleges that Haryana’s withholding of water has affected 28 lakh people in Delhi, exacerbating the water shortage during the high temperatures and heat waves. Residents have been relying on water tankers to meet their daily needs.
