Delhi Minister Atishi Criticizes Central Government for Not Allocating Funds to Delhi
New Delhi [India], July 19: Delhi Minister Atishi has raised concerns about the central government’s allocation of funds. She claimed that while people in Delhi paid Rs 2.25 lakh crore in taxes to the central government last year, the Delhi government did not receive any money from these taxes.
Atishi emphasized that Delhi residents pay taxes to both the Delhi and central governments. She noted that Rs 35,000 crore was paid to the Delhi government and used for local development. However, despite being one of the highest taxpayers, Delhi received no funds from the central government.
Atishi pointed out that the central government will present its budget on July 23, and last year, it allocated Rs 45 lakh crore. She argued that it is the government’s responsibility to spend money on the development of all regions, including Delhi.
Criticizing the central government, Atishi compared Delhi’s situation to that of Mumbai, which receives Rs 54,000 crore in the budget. She demanded that the central government ensure fair allocations for Delhi’s development in this year’s budget.
Atishi also drew a parallel with the United States, questioning if the American government would neglect a major city like New York. She likened the current situation to the colonial era, where the British took resources without giving back. She concluded by stating that Delhi should receive Rs 10,000 crore, which is just 0.25% of the central government’s budget.
