Delhi Minister Atishi Announces Rs 10 Lakh Compensation for Families of Drowning Victims

New Delhi [India], June 30: Delhi Minister Atishi has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives due to drowning amid waterlogging caused by heavy rainfall in the national capital.

Compensation Announcement

In an order to the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Revenue, Atishi stated, “It has been reported that there have been several deaths due to drowning on June 28, after the extreme rainfall of 228mm. It is hereby directed that the families of all those who lost their lives shall be provided a compensation of Rs 10 Lakhs.”

She further directed the ACS Revenue to identify the victims with the help of area hospitals and Delhi Police and to provide the compensation immediately on behalf of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).

Tragic Incidents

On June 28, two children, aged 8 and 10, drowned after falling into a deep rainwater ditch in the New Usmanpur area of Delhi. They were residents of Som Bazaar, Gamri. Deputy Commissioner of Police, North East Joy Tirkey, shared that the incident occurred around 5:00 pm in the New Usmanpur area.

In another incident, two boys died due to drowning near the rainwater-flooded Siraspur underpass in northwest Delhi’s Samaypur Badli area on Saturday. The fire brigade recovered their bodies, and police suspect they drowned while taking a bath.
