Delhi Minister Atishi Announces New Plans to Fight Waterlogging After Heavy Rains

New Delhi [India], June 28: Heavy rains in Delhi have caused significant waterlogging in many areas. In response, Delhi Minister Atishi has announced several key measures to address the issue.

Emergency Control Room

A combined Emergency Control Room will be established, involving the Delhi Jal Board, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. This control room will monitor waterlogging 24 hours a day and take necessary actions.

Inspection and Readiness

All departments will inspect their Static and Mobile Water Pumps to ensure they are ready to pump out water. Quick Response Teams will be formed and deployed to remove waterlogging at the ground level.

Recyclers and Workers

Recyclers will be installed in every zone of the Delhi Jal Board to clean stormwater drains filled with water and silt. Workers will be deployed as needed to assist in this effort.

Record Rainfall

Atishi highlighted that Delhi received 228 mm of rain in 24 hours, which is 25% of the total monsoon rainfall. This excessive rainfall has caused drains to overflow, leading to waterlogging in many areas.

Identifying Hotspots

The Delhi government has identified 200 hotspots prone to waterlogging. Out of these, 40 hotspots are under CCTV surveillance by the Public Works Department (PWD). Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj added that the Traffic Police and area representatives will identify vulnerable areas and monitor them constantly.
