Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi held a meeting with Municipal Commissioner Ashwani Kumar to improve the sanitation system in the national capital. The meeting aimed to strengthen the sanitation system and prepare for the upcoming monsoon season.

Key Attendees

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners of all zones, the Engineer in Chief, and other senior officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal and Leader of House Mukesh Goel were also present.

Discussion Points

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioners briefed the Mayor and the Commissioner about the issues in their respective areas. Mayor Oberoi directed officials to:

  • Deploy additional sanitation workers
  • Take strict measures against zone concessionaires for proper cleaning
  • Ensure timely garbage collection by auto-tippers
  • Remove illegal debris from roadsides, back lanes, and parks
  • Coordinate with all agencies to keep Delhi clean and garbage-free

Monsoon Preparations

Mayor Oberoi emphasized cleaning drains before the monsoon to prevent waterlogging. She instructed officials to identify waterlogging-prone areas and deploy additional pumps. Immediate action should be taken in areas where citizens report waterlogging problems.

Field Inspections

Mayor Oberoi and area councillors will conduct field inspections to ensure work is being carried out at the ground level. The MCD is making every effort to keep Delhi clean and is prepared to tackle waterlogging during the monsoon.

Quick Response Team

Earlier, Mayor Oberoi highlighted the MCD’s preparedness for the monsoons, including the formation of a quick response team and 24-hour control rooms at zonal and ward levels to resolve public issues.

Action Plan

The action plan is divided into two phases: pre-monsoon and post-monsoon, with actions taken accordingly. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the onset of monsoons in Delhi around June 30.
