Delhi LG VK Saxena Refuses to Meet AAP Women’s Delegation

Led by Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla

A group of women from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Delhi Assembly Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla, sought a meeting with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. They aimed to discuss the alleged sexual abuse of a female doctor by a Medical Superintendent at a Delhi hospital. However, the LG refused to meet them, prompting criticism from the delegation.

Allegations and Criticism

Rakhi Birla accused the LG of being anti-women, stating that it was shameful that the elected women representatives were ignored despite informing the LG in advance. The delegation, which included MLA Dhanwati Chandela, Preeti Tomar, Vandana Kumari, Bhavana Gaur, and women councillors, stood outside the LG’s residence for hours without being addressed.

The group condemned the ongoing abuse and the transfer of the victim instead of taking action against the accused. Birla expressed disappointment that no one from the LG’s office engaged with them on the issue.

Security Concerns

Birla highlighted that hundreds of police officers were deployed to prevent them from meeting the LG, questioning if they appeared as threats. She criticized the LG for celebrating inside while ignoring the serious issue raised by the delegation.

The delegation’s letter to the LG was returned by a steno-level officer, and Birla called for accountability from the Union Home Minister and the LG, emphasizing the ongoing harassment faced by the victimized doctor.
