Delhi LG VK Saxena Launches Dust-Free Drive, AAP Responds

Delhi LG VK Saxena Launches Dust-Free Drive

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Public Work Department (PWD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Irrigation and Command Area Development (I&CAD), and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to start a dust-free Delhi drive. This drive is to be carried out over the next week or ten days and then turned into a year-long campaign.

Cleaning Efforts

LG Saxena advised MCD and PWD to clean the roads and transport the dust to designated dumping sites. Agencies responsible for cleaning drains and sewer lines, such as MCD, I&FCD, and DJB, have been asked to coordinate and dispose of the silt or mud. Even if it rains, the removal of wet mud or silt should continue to prevent clogging of drains and sewer lines.

Monitoring and Review

Teams are to be deployed immediately, and the work should be recorded through ‘before and after’ pictures and videos. The status of ongoing works will be regularly provided to the LG Secretariat, and Saxena will review the status after the first phase of the Dust-free Delhi exercise.

AAP’s Response

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) responded to the LG’s advisory, claiming that Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj had already called for a meeting on this matter. The meeting was not held due to the unavailability of officials. AAP stated that Bharadwaj had sent a meeting note with photographs and GPS locations showing silt deposits and had asked department heads to prepare a plan to remove the silt within two weeks. AAP claims that LG Saxena is trying to take credit for their initiative.
