Delhi LG VK Saxena Approves 3,247 New Jobs for Delhi Prisons
New Delhi [India], September 5: In a significant move to improve the management of Delhi Prisons, Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena has approved the creation of 3,247 new positions in the Prison Department of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). These positions are to be filled within the next six months.
The new roles include various positions in Group A, B, and C categories across different cadres such as jail, technical, and ministerial. Positions like Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Head Warder, Head Matron, Warder, Section Officer, Accounts Officer, Assistants, and Drivers will be filled in various jails including Tihar, Mandoli, and Rohini.
This decision follows a detailed proposal from the Prison Department, which was vetted by the Administrative Reforms (AR) Department and approved by the Finance Department. A meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary and attended by senior officials was held on August 7, 2024, to discuss the proposal. The LG approved the proposal on August 21, 2024, with the directive to fill the positions within six months.
Additionally, on September 4, President Droupadi Murmu delegated powers to LG VK Saxena to appoint members to various authorities, boards, and commissions in Delhi. This delegation of power was formalized through a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
