Delhi LG V.K Saxena Eases Job Qualifications for 1984 Riot Victims
In a significant development, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V.K Saxena has announced a relaxation in the educational qualifications required for the recruitment of victims of the 1984 riots. This decision, made on Friday, reduces the minimum educational requirement for the Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) position from 10th grade to 8th grade, thereby increasing the eligibility of candidates.
The move is seen as a crucial step towards providing assistance and justice to the victims of the 1984 riots. According to a press note from the Delhi LG, this decision addresses the long-standing procedural delays and bureaucratic hurdles that have hindered support for the victims.
V.K Saxena emphasized the urgent need for support and instructed relevant departments to explore employment opportunities for the children of deceased or elderly applicants, based on humanitarian grounds. This announcement aims to help victims secure employment and ease the financial burdens faced by affected families.
In his statement, Delhi LG V.K Saxena remarked, “The 1984 Sikh Riots were a blot on Indian democratic traditions. Terrible atrocities were committed upon a particular minority community, violating all standards of human rights.” He further noted the significant trauma and hardship endured by the victims and the lack of relief for some families over the past four decades, highlighting the need for a humanitarian approach.
The Revenue Department had suggested lowering educational requirements and allowing relatives of original candidates to apply for MTS positions. However, the Delhi Chief Secretary recommended focusing solely on the qualification relaxation. The LG returned the proposal to the Services Department for further examination. Following a review, the Services Department, on the LG’s orders, proposed a one-time exemption of educational requirements to assist the victims of the 1984 riots.
